Petition to the Senate:

"Dangerous and dishonest policies such as the “balanced budget amendment” hurt children and working families; they hurt older Americans and people with disabilities; all to protect tax breaks for wealthy Wall Street donors. We demand that you reject the dangerous “balanced budget amendment,” which would result in massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps and more."

Stop Mitch McConnell from causing cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and more.

When we defeated Paul Ryan’s “balanced budget amendment” in the House―which would have caused deep cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, education, food stamps and more―we knew the fight wasn’t over.

Now, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has announced that the U.S. Senate is planning a vote on a similarly dishonest and dangerous amendment.

A balanced budget amendment wouldn’t just cause deep cuts to critical services. It would also make it nearly impossible to roll back the Trump-GOP tax scam for the richest 1 percent and wealthy corporations.

Tell the Senate: Stop attacks on our earned benefits just to pay for tax cuts for the rich and corporations. Reject the so-called balanced budget amendment.

Together, we must stop this attempt by Congressional Republicans to cut critical services for working families and older Americans―just to pay for their Trump-GOP tax scam, which mostly benefited the rich and corporations and added $2 trillion to the national debt.

With this vote, Republicans are making a political calculation. They think that by passing the dangerous balanced budget amendment in an Election Year, they can claim the mantle of fiscal responsibility.

That’s why there’s a lot of pressure on Democrats to support this disastrous proposal. We need to make sure there are no defections, and that we get rank-and-file Republicans to oppose their leadership.

Tell the Senate: Stop attacks on our earned benefits just to pay for tax cuts for the rich and corporations. Reject the so-called balanced budget amendment.
