CNN: Don't book liars
Disgraced former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski just admitted he routinely lied to the American people to protect Trump – and was rewarded with a CNN appearance.
After intense questioning from House Democrats detailed his repeated lies about the Mueller investigation, Lewandowski claimed under oath: "I have no obligation to be honest with the media."1
But less than 24 hours later, media outlets like CNN invited this admitted liar on television.2 That's unacceptable.
Tell CNN and other major media outlets: Don't book liars like Corey Lewandowski.
Lewandowski is using all this free publicity to plan a run for Senate in New Hampshire. During a break in his appalling congressional hearing, he tweeted out a link to his new fundraising PAC. Media outlets who book Lewandowski are giving free airtime to a potential candidate for public office whose words are likely to be blatant falsehoods.
Lewandowski's level of lying and obfuscation is not normal. During the Mueller investigation, he told investigators that Trump directed him to pressure Attorney General Jeff Sessions into either shutting down the Russia investigation or being fired. Then he went on MSNBC and told the public that Trump never asked him to speak with Sessions.3 His CNN appearance yesterday was equally appalling. He repeatedly cited the Mueller report and then admitted he hadn't read it.4
The media are under no obligation to book Lewandowski or other liars like him. No outlet that takes itself seriously can give a platform to a man who made it absolutely clear he will lie to the public for his own gain. There is no benefit to the American people hearing from someone who bragged about gaslighting them. You would think CNN and other outlets would have understood this already. And yet they booked him right after his ridiculous House hearing. It will clearly take extra pressure to remind media outlets to serve the public trust – and keep a liar like Lewandowski off the airwaves.
Tell major media outlets: Don't book admitted liars like Corey Lewandowski.
Thank you for speaking out.
