Tell the DSCC: No re-election funding for Democrats who don’t fight for a clean DREAM Act

With every day that passes without the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, hundreds of immigrant youth are losing their work permits and protection from deportation.

Senate Democrats have the leverage to advance a clean DREAM Act as part of the must-pass spending package that Congress needs to approve by Dec. 8, but only a handful of them have pledged to stand their ground on DACA during the budget fight.1 That is not enough.

It’s time for Democratic Party leaders to take a stand and draw a bright line. Senate Democrats who refuse to fight for a clean DREAM Act will help Trump’s regime deport more than 800,000 immigrant youth and tear apart their families and communities. They will turn their backs on the party base, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) should refuse to support their re-election.

Tell the DSCC: Defund Democrats who do not fight for a clean DREAM Act.

Right now, many immigrants are living in fear. Donald Trump’s xenophobic administration is criminalizing immigrants, attacking sanctuary cities and trying to wall off our borders. House members of his bigoted party have advanced legislation to destroy the country’s core immigration and refugee programs and ramp-up enforcement nationwide.

Trump promised that his rogue deportation force would not target DACA recipients, but he lied. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have terrorized, targeted and arrested DACA recipients as part of the agency's indiscriminate dragnets early this year.2 And recently, the Trump regime detained disabled DACAmented youth Felipe Abonza-Lopez who claimed that Customs and Border Patrol agents bullied and teased him about his prosthetic leg and refused to give him pain medication.3 That is cruel and unacceptable.

What are Senate Democrats waiting for? They need to do their job, stand up for their immigrant constituents and fight to pass the DREAM Act with no strings attached – and the DSCC must hold them accountable if they don’t.

Tell the DSCC: Defund Democrats who do not fight for a clean DREAM Act.

Congress must approve a budget bill by Dec. 8 to fund the government and keep it running – and the Republican leadership needs the support of Senate Democrats to make that happen. If Senate Democrats form a united front on DACA during the upcoming budget negotiations, they could force a vote on a clean DREAM Act.

Already, progressive champions Sens. Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have indicated that they would not vote for a spending package if Congress does not resolve the future of DACA by the end of the year. They understand what’s at stake for the immigrants in their districts and across the country, and their colleagues in the Senate must follow their lead.4

An estimated 150,000 DACA recipients will lose their legal status and could face deportation by March, which is why Senate Democrats must do everything in their power to restore the program now.5 Add your name to demand that the DSCC hold every Democrat in the Senate accountable who fails to protect their immigrant constituents.

Tell the DSCC: Defund Democrats who do not fight for a clean DREAM Act.

Thank you for speaking out to protect immigrant youth and their families.
