Democrats must stand strong against Republican attacks on Planned Parenthood

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell just put the Republican attack on Planned Parenthood on a fast track.

Just over a week ago, a group of extreme anti-abortion activists opened a new front of attack on Planned Parenthood by releasing a video that has since been widely discredited. Republican politicians immediately latched on to the smear campaign as an excuse to grandstand for their anti-woman agenda.1 Senator Rand Paul threatened to filibuster any bills that did not include amendments to completely defund Planned Parenthood. And just yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell put a bill to defund Planned Parenthood on a fast track for a quick vote in the Senate.2

Planned Parenthood does invaluable work providing healthcare for women, and defending women’s rights. When Republicans scheme with anti-abortion extremists to defund them, they’re not just threatening women’s lives, they’re also aggressively striking at one of the most important advocates for women in the country.

Democrats have to push back now. They need to go on the record in support of Planned Parenthood’s work and speak out to discredit these orchestrated attacks. And they must block any attempts to undermine or defund Planned Parenthood in Congress.

Tell Democrats: It’s time to stand up for Planned Parenthood.

The right-wing has a long history of using selectively edited, secretly obtained video to discredit vital progressive institutions and provide political cover for Republicans in Congress to destroy them. It’s what they did to ACORN and it’s what they have been trying to do to Planned Parenthood for years. Some anti-abortion activists are clearly willing to say anything, no matter how untrue, to pursue their agenda. It’s outrageous that Republican politicians, in a blatant attempt to throw women and their families under the bus to score points with their extremist, anti-woman base, are choosing to join them.2

The anti-abortion activists trying to discredit and destroy Planned Parenthood released a second video this week, and it was just as deceptive as the first one. They've promised that more video is to come, which would provide even more cover for Republicans who want to use these lies as an excuse to attack Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is fighting back on every front,4 and as many of us as possible need to stand up to join them.

Tell Congressional Democrats: Stand up for women. Stand up for Planned Parenthood.

CREDO is proud to be the largest corporate donor to Planned Parenthood, with more than $3 million dollars in contributions. Thanks for standing with us to defend them.
