Tell Congress: Support the resolution for a just transition to 100 percent renewable energy

This week, a new report found that in order to prevent catastrophic global warming, the upper limit of carbon pollution we can still emit should be slashed in half.1

No matter what the climate deniers and the fossil fuel industry say, the clock keeps ticking on the need to rapidly transition to 100 percent clean energy. There is no other time to push for bold climate action.

The Paris Climate agreement showed a historic consensus for cutting fossil fuels. To keep the momentum growing, the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), led Reps. Raul Grijalva and Keith Ellison, has introduced an ambitious climate change resolution calling for a just transition to zero emissions and 100 percent clean electricity.2

Twenty five representatives have already signed on, but we need to speak out to grow support in Congress for this vital resolution.

Tell Congress: Support the resolution for zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The CPC resolution calls for 50 percent clean energy by 2030 and 100 percent clean energy and zero carbon emissions by January 1, 2050.

The resolution phases out wasteful fossil fuel subsidies, supports trade policies that maintain labor and environmental standards, and creates green jobs and training programs with an emphasis on veterans and historically unemployed or underemployed populations.

Scientists have shown that it is 100 percent possible to switch to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.3

Of course, the obstacles aren’t technological, they are political. And while the obstacles are steep, our fiercely determined climate movement is showing that if we keep working, we can make the seemingly impossible possible.

Please join the call urging members of Congress to support the CPC resolution for a just transition to zero greenhouse gas emissions and 100 percent clean energy by 2050.
