No rate hikes for dirty coal in North Carolina
Duke Energy - which had record profits of $1.3 billion last year1 - wants to increase your electric rates by 18% so it can keep pumping dirty coal pollution into North Carolina's air.
Duke has requested more than $600 million in rate increases from the North Carolina Utilities Commission in order to expand and maintain its fleet of dirty and deadly coal plants.
Rather than lock in decades of dirty coal use in North Carolina, we should be investing in clean energy and energy efficiency. The North Carolina Utilities Commission is accepting public comments on Duke's request, which they'll take into account when they make their decision.
Tell the North Carolina Utilities Commission: Don't let utilities in North Carolina raise rates to pay for dirty coal.
Some of the money generated by the proposed rate hike will be used to pay for the expansion of the massive and filthy Cliffside coal plant.
During these difficult economic times, North Carolina residents shouldn't be forced to pay for the expansion of costly and unnecessary dirty energy projects.
The hundreds of millions of dollars Duke Energy is requesting would be better spent investing in clean, renewable energy technologies that can power the state without making North Carolina residents sick.
Tell the North Carolina Utilities Commission: Don't let utilities in North Carolina raise rates to pay for dirty coal.
