Tell Bill Gates: No New Dirty Coal

Global warming is here, and the need to transform our energy sector has never been clearer. So what does Bill Gates want to do? Apparently, build more new dirty coal plants.

Unlike Warren Buffett, who recently canceled six planned coal plants, Washington resident Bill Gates' personal investment company is the largest stakeholder in Otter Tail Corporation -- the lead sponsor of the controversial Big Stone II coal project in Minnesota.

Coal is the absolute wrong answer to our energy challenges. Burning coal is about the dirtiest way to make electricity you can think of. Coal-fired power plants currently account for 40% of our nation's carbon dioxide emissions, the leading cause of global warming. Coal-fired power plants also spew out millions of tons of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, as well as close to 100,000 pounds of mercury (a very dangerous neurotoxin), every year.

Bill Gates can make a huge impact by saying no dirty coal and yes to clean energy. In fact, eight Minnesota legislators wrote Bill Gates and asked him to visit Minnesota and see the green investment opportunities. Unfortunately, he has showed no signs of backing down on the Big Stone II Coal Project.

Take action today and tell Bill Gates to protect the future of the planet by saying NO to any investment in dirty coal.
